LOCTITE 638 Retaining Compound is a high-strength, general-purpose anaerobic adhesive designed for the permanent bonding of cylindrical metal components, including shafts, gears, pulleys, bushings, and sleeves.
Its high-viscosity formulation provides excellent gap-filling capability and is suitable for assemblies with larger clearances. LOCTITE 638 delivers exceptional strength on all metals, including passive substrates such as stainless steel, aluminum, and plated surfaces. It cures rapidly with a fixture time of approximately 4 minutes, even in the presence of minor surface contaminants or industrial oils, helping to reduce downtime and preparation effort.
The compound offers high temperature resistance and long-term durability, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments. In addition to cylindrical part retention, LOCTITE 638 can also be used for high-strength threadlocking and thread sealing applications. It meets the KIWA GASTEC QA AR 214 performance requirements for metal threaded fittings, including use with 100% hydrogen gas (certification availability varies by country).
